ANALOG TOTAL. FOTOGRAFIE HEUTE

ANALOG TOTAL. PHOTOGRAPHY TODAY

The enthusiasm for analog photography is currently experiencing a revival. While digital photography dominates the field of the documentary and everyday, analog photography is increasingly asserting itself as a medium for the artistic and experimental.

The catalog shows the whole range of contemporary developments in analog photography using unique pieces, series and photographic installations. With a total of 24 artists from German-speaking countries, different nuances of this medium are highlighted in four thematic groups. A clear focus is on the materiality and the experimental in dealing with light, chemistry and technology.

For example, contemporary interpretations of photograms, chemigrams and lumen prints that refer to the beginnings of photography are shown. Silver daguerreotypes or ambrotypes with images from today create disturbing anachronisms. Still other artists work with various forms of photography that go beyond the ordinary photo camera.

Positions that move on the border between analog and digital will also be presented, such as interaction with an artificial intelligence, cooperation with a digital machine or the translation of digital images into analog.
